Personally, I think that Obama despises the US Military; combining the natural disdain show by the New Left as our military is a sign of US might with that of the hatred of “Western colonialism” impugned to the US (even as General Powell once said that with respect to imperialism, the US only wished sufficient land in foreign countries in which to lay our dead”). This is a known entity and it has been displayed multiple times and the budgets reflect it (aka, Determined Weakness).
On the other hand, it is well known that President Bush, even as he ordered them into harm’s way, had much admiration for those he commanded – and they knew it.
The reaction of our young military leaders-to-be makes it clear: one they trust and one they don’t. One President realized that loyalty upward requires loyalty downward. The other is only loyal to himself and his ideology. You decide which is which from the reactions.
