The Left portrays themselves as getting into politics to help the little guy. Observation shows us they do it to make more little guys. Everything they do gets government between you and opportunity, and their energy policy might be the worst yet.
It turns the political elite into carbon despots hoarding everything for themselves while reducing basic comforts like heat, air-conditioning, and travel, into luxuries. And some of them truly believe they are entitled to these things to keep doing good which translates to more oppression.
Their latest boondoggle does two things well, and neither has anything to do with the planet’s temperature. It adds 87,000 new IRS “soldiers” (Four Divisions, or a Field Army) and launders billions from energy independence to dependence – from reliable to unreliable. From your wallet into the hands of favored industries and individuals, much of which will wash up on the fiscal shores of the Chinese Communist Party.
For what, you ask? Surely that wasn’t how they sold it? Most Democrats didn’t vote to launder more money to China, did they?
All Democrats know how to launder other people’s money. It is their only leadership skill (if you can call it that) – but they like to pretend.
In the case of the Inflation reduction act, Congress inflates the Nation’s debt some more, then inflates taxes, while the media inflates the lie that these taxes will pay for whatever it is we’re buying, and what is that?
We get 87,000 more IRS agents, their salaries, offices (probably with heat and AC), office equipment, supplies, computers, IT infrastructure, benefits, retirements (union dues), vehicles, gas (or electrons), mileage costs, expense accounts, and whatever else I’ve forgotten.
We also get the emotional, and financial loss of having these tens of thousands of “officers” eat out our substance should we fail to navigate the tome of regulations and forms provided to ensure we “are paying their taxes.”
A climate of fear and intimidation. A weight “The Rich™” will shoulder with indifference after claims are managed and settled by their accountants and legal teams. Another luxury most Americans will be unable to afford.
On the green energy side, and when we say green, we mean the money, not the infrastructure or its output; the benefits are a statistical zero. Much like the over-advertised benefits of the Paris Climate Accord, which kneecapped America and little else, the Democrat’s Castrate America Act wouldn’t change the projected temperature rise by more than 0.028 degrees by 2100.
For a nation on a planet with only a handful of years left “to do something,” this massive waste of resources does nothing.
Nearly all of Washington—Democrats, the press, lobbyists—is taking a victory lap with Senate passage of the Schumer-Manchin tax, climate and drug price control bill. The climate lobby is especially thrilled, claiming a historic victory that will reduce temperatures, hold back the rising sea, and save the planet.
Or, maybe not. Our contributor Bjorn Lomborg looked at the Rhodium Group estimate for CO2 emissions reductions from Schumer-Manchin policies. He then plugged them into the United Nations climate model to measure the impact on global temperature by 2100. He finds the bill will reduce the estimated global temperature rise at the end of this century by all of 0.028 degrees Fahrenheit in the optimistic case. In the pessimistic case, the temperature difference will be 0.0009 degrees Fahrenheit.
Democrats would need to launder 39 trillion dollars at this rate to achieve the necessary reduction in temperature their Dogma requires. I’m not saying they’re not up to the challenge, but at what point does it appear obvious that the only climate that interests them is their financial one?
The geological, logistical, manufacturing, transportation, installation, maintenance, and disposal of their “solution” is as or more of a carbon threat than natural gas, nuclear, thermal, wave, hydro, oil, and even clean coal. All of which are available here, enrich us instead of our enemies, and are capable of meeting current and future demands.
And that’s if we agree that CO2 is a problem and one that a government can solve. Neither is true, but if they were, the solutions for which we and our posterity are paying at the hands of Democrats in Congress wouldn’t even make a tiny dent in the problem as advertised.
What it might do is make some Irish democrats more wealthy who, being vassals of progressive machine politics, won’t even notice the new Field Army of IRS agents whose very existence will elevate DC’s already massive carbon footprint.
