Conservative radio talk show host Jeff Chidester said Tuesday he has been approached by “numerous people inside the state and outside the state” about the possibility of running for the 1st District U.S. House seat. Chidester, a Republican, said he is considering it but feels in no rush to decide.
Republican Former U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta has announced his candidacy for the seat now held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, while another Republican, former University of New Hampshire business school dean Dan Innis, is also strongly considering it.
…He has also long been outspoken and active in conservative circles and writes on issues related to the U.S. Constitution and the role of government. Chidester said he has been “asked to run for various positions in the past, including Congress,” and is “truly humbled that so many people trust and believe in me. Their faith in me is not something I take lightly. He said he has “forged some very strong relationships with prominent conservatives, not only in New Hampshire, but across the country. These relationships include members of Congress, former members of Congress and various conservative groups.
Chidester said that many of those who have asked him to consider running are “pledging assistance should I decide to run. This is all very humbling, but now it is also getting very serious.”
I know Jeff well. He is a very smart guy, well spoken, easy with a joke, and a devoted family guy. He knows the issues well and I KNOW that unless he walked the talked, he wouldn’t have the vast number of Conservatives and Constitution-loving folks as his friends and backers (betcha that the Progressive email campaign writers are already downing bottles of Xanax and Maalox – they must so HATE that phrase “Constitution-loving”!). And God have mercy on the souls of his opponents when it comes to a debate – I can see the skin already dropping at their feet. Their heads must be popping from apoplexy: the Proper Role of Government AND the Constitution?? Shea-Porter truly showed how she feesl about Vets with her vote today – do she really want to take on THIS Vet?
And a good timing too -too often, Conservatives have to pick from two good candidates and a moderate splits the two in the primary. Heh – right now, it seems that there are two Establishmentarians in the run (one who failed to keep his primary promise to us when he was in DC and one wobbly for other reasons) and now, perhaps one of the most well known and loved grassroots guy in the State may be willing to lay down his tools in the field and tend to a more important crop for a while.
Sidenote: My, won’t this give the NH GOP HQ angina – that is, (if the birdies talking to me are correct) there is anyone left. Truly, can there even be a Queen Bee if there are no worker bees around?
Heh! Oh, back to the topic at hand: “pledging assistance should I decide to run”.
This is a guy I can trust – he won’t be running to BE someone, he won’t be running to WEAR a title, and he can’t be co-opted by the likes of Trent Lott or any other Establishment Republicans. THEY might be rubbing their hands in glee – “fresh meat”. They haven’t seen the gleam in his eye, that hard nosed glint that says “Time to go to work, boys n’ girls; we’ve got a lot ahead of us to right the USS America for our kids’ kids”. An extreme Rightest? No – but a more devoted person to the Framers values and vision for this country here in NH, you’d be hard pressed to find. Very hard pressed.
Count me in, for he’ll stand on that lonely rampart again.
