I watched the Obama Administration issue the “Washington Monument Act” strategy (e.g., shut down citizen-popular stuff to extract the most amount of pain and frustration) by fiat that all National Parks be closed – even those areas that normally not manned like the War Memoriasl on the National Mall that are ordinarily “open air”. He and his minions smiled – once again, pulling the Community Organizer tool box out in agitating the crowds towards the outcome they wanted. The Imperious President thundering forth “I don’t have to offer ANYTHING” – as he targets the House Republicans just as he used to do the Chicago elites. Well worn, well played, and successful.
Cakewalk, they thought. We can cower anyone. Except a monkey wrench showed up. A few hundred, actually
A bunch of old, enfeebled WW II Vets, from whose ranks thousands are dying every day,came to DC. Some walking, some behind walkers, many being wheeled to THEIR memorial earned those decades ago as THEIR gift to the nation. And many paid that ultimate gift for the rest of us. The survivors simply made the journey (by gifts by others to them for this) to see what a grateful nation gifted back to them. THEIR MEMORIAL earned by their blood, their wounds, and their dead buddies.
In front of them, in their way, stood Obama.
And Obama, having been previously asked for entrance by these few representatives of the Greatest Generation, said “No, I don’t care about that – do not let them pass. WE, the Government, own that – you didn’t earn it“. And told his National Park Service minions to barricade a memorial that has not fences otherwise.
But these weazened soldiers, Marines, seamen, and Coasties said “We’ve already fought better than you, Mr. President. WE own this,we DIED for this – not you!” And as they had done 70 years ago, they stormed yet another beachhead, not knowing it was for their countrymen once again, to turn back what appears to be a tyrannical leader. And they took the beachhead. Again. For the rest of us – and we have to recognize it for that.
And the Administration retreat started, with mumbles of “well, it was allowed because it was a ‘First Amendment’ event”. Blither-blather; they poked the President in the eye and he knew it.
We ALL should take a lesson from this – when those in government go beyond where they should, when they assume powers that are not granted to them, when they demand that which they are not entitled to hold – we should not take it. In fact, we need to BE those Vets. We need to take it back. Our Government does not own us, so why do we act like they do? Why do we simply give up and give in?
The DREADFUL treatment of the WW II Vets by our Government demands an uprising. Hell, the dreadful treatment of our Government towards them deomonstrates the same contempt they have for the rest of us. That attitude screams “Ours, not your’s”; it demands an uprising. This is what Progressives have wrought and how Obama’s Administration behaves – Public Masters instead of public servants. We all need to have the courage of those Vets – and have the cojones to say “No further”.
One doesn’t appease a bully. One doesn’t kowtow to a bully. One doesn’t open the door for the thieves that are taking your stuff out of your place simply because they say “Ours, not yours”. With their actions yesterday and what it was prepared to do today, we must realize that many in government ARE bullies – especially those that give the Orders from Top.
Obama, Pelosi, and Reid call those of us that want a limited government anarchists and extremists – nice to see the attitude of our public servants towards those that they are supposed to serve. Are they really serving when they sneer at us this way? Are they really serving when they have nothing but contempt for citizens.
You know what I oft say: The Bigger the Government, the smaller the citizen. By this one event, Obama has shown how small he believes those that were willing to lay down their lives for us in his eyes. In fact, they don’t matter at all.
It is now time for a different meme: the Citizens must make Big Government smaller and back to where it belongs.
WE own it – not you! WE own it – not Government. You are MERELY the caretakers of our stuff – learn your place!
