I am not one of those whiners that believe that schools are not the place for guns. Why? I believe that NO where should there be a gun where the person holding that weapon has decided to cause harm and emotional distress. Problem is, that kind of person doesn’t seem to pay much mind to the laws that say otherwise. So, would I want a place where a teacher, for the lack of other resources, simply tries to hide in a classroom closet – or one that is not only invested in my kids but is willing to protect them with something useful and knows how to use it. Both teachers may well love the kids they teach the same way, but I’d want the one that could do something about it.
And yes, for those naysayers out there, violence does create problems – but also solves them too.
