The Bigger the Government, the deader the Bambi??

In order to save Bambi, we had to bodybag her

Deer BodybagYeah, I know – it’s “The Bigger the Government, the deader smaller the Citizens” (hey, it fits – the deader our Freedom).  But it is true, the Bigger the Government, the Bigger it thinks it really is – and as a result, the stupider it gets.  A bureaucracy, once set in motion, sets up all kinds of rules and regulations and follows them every jot and tittle – and lose sight of the actual reason for their existence.  Check this box, check that box, make this measurement, cross-check against some other list…

…and you end up with a fustercluck of a SWAT Team targeting a recently newborn doe.  Yup, a Government that decided that it was in charge of saving deer from the rest of us had the authority to kill it instead of “us” saving it. This story’s been circulating for the last couple of days and it was such that I decided to let it percolate a bit to see if there was a “rest of the story” not part of the first.  Er, sadly, nope – a sacrificial fawn name “Giggles”.  From WISN (reformatted, emphasis mine):

WISN 12 News investigates an operation raising questions about the use of government resources and the state policy that meant a death sentence for a fawn.  “It was like a SWAT team,” shelter employee Ray Schulze said. Two weeks ago, Schulze was working in the barn at the Society of St. Francis on the Kenosha-Illinois border when a swarm of squad cars arrived and officers unloaded with a search warrant.

“(There were) nine DNR agents and four deputy sheriffs, and they were all armed to the teeth,” Schulze said.

15 armed Government agents that decided to descend upon yet another Catholic charity?  OK, it is the Obama Administration that is doing the “Chicago Stomp” on the Catholic Church (as well as others).  In any case, here is a great example when Libertarians talk about “the Force of Government” – killing a dear baby deer is not, as the collective Democrats are wont to say “[Government is] what we do together”. So, regulations and laws are put into place to SAVE wildlife.  To keep wildlife from being mistreated.  To keep  keep wildlife from being inadvertently by “untrained civilians”.  So, quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who will watch the watchers?  So Government wraps itself all up in its own self-empowered regs and actions: go forth and save the wildlife.  How’d that work out for a real life Bambi?

The focus of their search was a baby fawn brought there by an Illinois family worried she had been abandoned by her mother.  “When it made a little noise, it sounded like it was laughing,” Schulze said. Schulze videotaped the fawn they named Giggles during the two weeks she was there. The Department of Natural Resources began investigating after two anonymous calls reporting a baby deer at the no-kill shelter.

A no-kill shelter whose employees obviously loved animals and was enthralled enough to give it a name – Giggles.  Such dangerous folks – they just had to have visions of venison in their dreams, right?  Otherwise – why all the guns?

The warden drafted an affidavit for the search warrant, complete with aerial photos in which he described getting himself into a position where he was able to see the fawn going in and out of the barn.  Agents told staff they came to seize the deer because Wisconsin law forbids the possession of wildlife. “I said the deer is scheduled to go to the wildlife reserve the next day,” Schulze said. It was to go to a wildlife reserve in Illinois that allows the rehabilitation of deer.

Drones, eh?  How much did that cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin?  Plus his time – to watch an animal shelter (as opposed to a private hunting reserve where Bambi WOULD be hunted)?  The intent of the Government, remember, is to SAVE wildlife – and they all about going after an animal shelter?  A NO-kill shelter (PETA would be proud)?  And that they had already made arrangements to send it to a place that specializes in getting wildlife ready to, um, re-enter that wildlife?  Who here HASN’T see documentaries of such operations – you can’t just turn a young’un out!  Without a mother (see the top of this story), it would be toast.  Here, the Government brings the butter:

Schulze said agents corralled workers near the picnic area and then set out in search of the fawn.

“I was thinking in my mind they were going to take the deer and take it to a wildlife shelter, and here they come carrying the baby deer over their shoulder. She was in a body bag,” Schulze said. “I said, ‘Why did you do that?’ He said, ‘That’s our policy,’ and I said, ‘That’s one hell of a policy.'”

The Department of Natural Resources spoke to WISN 12 News about the fawn. Supervisor Jennifer Niemeyer said the law requires the DNR agents to euthanize animals like Giggles because of the potential for disease and danger to humans.  “These are always very difficult situations for both parties involved, and we are empathetic to the fact of what happened because we know in our heart of hearts they tried to do the right thing,” Niemeyer said.

My Lord, please save us from these fools!  Sure, the Government has an excuse – but a wuss one at best (see the rest of the story).  Once again, we see the NH State Rep Kris Roberts (D-Keene): “Government has to protect us from our own stupidity.”

How do we protect ourselves from THEIR stupidity?  And keep from ending up like Giggles – in a body bag?

So, remember this the next time that somebody tries to blow something up your you know what – so, Government is “compassionate” – how?  “Why” doesn’t even make sense.  PEOPLE are compassionate – Government is not.  We have a dead Bambi to prove the myth of “how compassionate Government is”. The dear folks at St. Francis were being compassionate, as an act of voluntary Christian charity, towards “lesser fortunates”.  Where was the SWAT Team’s “compassion”?
