With the updating of the Smith-Mundt Act, some are criticizing the repeal of rules that banned certain government-sponsored news broadcasts–such as Voice of America–from being aired inside the USA.
John Hudson of Foreign Policy, for instance, calls the move a “repeal” of the ban on government propaganda and says it will unleash “thousands of hours per week of government-funded radio and TV programs for domestic U.S. consumption.”
“Until this month,” Hudson says, “a vast ocean of U.S. programming produced by the Broadcasting Board of Governors such as Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks could only be viewed or listened to at broadcast quality in foreign countries.”
But with new amendments to the Smith-Mundt Act, those broadcast outlets will for the first time be allowed to broadcast inside the USA programming meant to appeal to specific communities.
I agree with Warner with some of his observations – Big Deal? When the Mainstream Media is not much more than a mouth-piece for the Obama Administration already and letting their own biases and Progressive advocacy fly, how much worse can it get?
I really do find it hard, at first blush, to see how much worse it could get. After all, the Right has talk radio, fer showah, and Fox News most of the time. But the rest? How little does the MSM really hold the Most Powerful to account with Obama at the helm? I have documented that he and his Administration has been bound and determined to fundamentally transform American not only in deed but also with their language. Freedom of Religion perverts the First Amendment, respecting “hunting and sport shooting” perverts the Second Amendment, declaring that he has the power to determine when the Senate is or isn’t in session (for purposes of “recess appointment”) hacks away at the separation of powers of the Constitution – and the “we can’t wait” [for Congress] is a ploy to set himself as King (even as there are those that have elevated The LightBringer to a demi-god status instead of just another power hungry politician that puts his pants on the same way we do and seemingly can’t speak without a Teleprompter).
No, I don’t think this will portend all that much more badness right now, but who knows what this Fascist would do with this. He has always been bound and determined to be someone that would not be an umpire but a Nanny that is bound and determined that we all should have a new way of thinking and believing. Those that believe in Freedom and Liberty do not twist words and slyly redefine definitions – only Totalitarianistic leaders do.
