“If we rush to appease one part of the state or one constituency, we really put everyone else at risk.”

Governor Sununu is sticking to his “Public Health Trumps Everything” mantra as we continue our new lives as political prisoners. And to justify not rushing back to normal, the Boston Herald quotes Flununu as saying, “If we rush to appease one part of the state or one constituency, we really put everyone else at risk.”

It seems to me that this is precisely how we got here in the first place.

We rushed in to appease New Hampshire Democrats demanding we go into lockdown. They are one part of the state and a constituency. And they were quite clear that they wanted a lockdown, and for years that they would do anything to ruin the state’s economy.

They got what they wanted.

Had we waited two weeks we’d have discovered that the scary models were exponentially wrong. We’d see that the majority of those getting sick enough to need treatment, and those dying were a sliver of the individuals truly at risk. It is a group that is no different than any other flu season.

In other words, we rushed to appease, created fear that didn’t need to happen, and now to quote Sununu pre lockdown, “how do you come back from that?”

The answer appears to be that you don’t.

Not anytime soon.

Because, once we’ve appeased one constituency and discovered we made a huge mistake, we can’t rush to appease any other constituency  becausethe first constituency will use it as political ammo to hammer the Governor for appeasing them.

Liberty suffers, which is also a priority of the first constituency.
