And so it begins: “COVID-19 Released Convict” arrested for robbery

by

Yep, all over the country we’ve been seeing story after story of “SAVE THE PRISONERS! We can’t allow them get to get sick” by bleeding heart liberals who have no problem in having these people released into Society.  The rest of are going “NO! They’re there for a reason and that’s to keep the rest of us safe FROM them.”.  Many Progressive elected Representatives (our elected politicians) ignored that plea. So, we end up with (reformatted, emphasis):

NYC prisoner released by state over coronavirus charged with robbery

A Bronx man released from prison by Gov. Andrew Cuomo last month amid the spread of the coronavirus has been charged with beating and robbing a 62-year-old man — who was so scared of getting the ailment he refused to take the money back when cops made an arrest. Daniel Vargas, 29, was being held on $50,000 bail on robbery, grand larceny and assault charges after allegedly approaching the elderly victim on Valentine Avenue in the Bronx shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to a criminal complaint.

Vargas allegedly demanded $80 that the man, who was leaving a local bodega with a cane and began punching and kicking him when he refused…Vargas, who has more than a dozen prior arrests for assault, robbery, weapons possession and burglary, had been in state prison on a 2014 burglary conviction until he was released on parole in November 2017, records show. But police sources said that he was later rearrested for violation of the conditions of his parole and was held behind bars — until last month.

Vargas was released on March 28 as one of 1,100 parole violators ordered released by Cuomo over concerns over the spread of the deadly pandemic in jails and prisons.

State corrections officials confirmed Thursday that Vargas, “having met the criteria under the directive from March 27 to release certain low-level technical parole violators in response to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in local jails, Daniel Vargas parole was lifted on March 28.”  “Once the parole warrant has been lifted, it is the responsibility of the local jail to release the individual,” the statement said.

Means “we’re not taking responsibility for our decision”.  They’re just following orders.

Officials in the governor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

No comment. Means “we’re not taking responsibility for our decision”. They just created the orders.

We should not have to put up with this nonsense. It isn’t our fault that this convict chose to commit a crime simply because he now had the opportunity to do so. That opportunity is strictly the the result of Government action (even as the decision by Vargas is entirely his own in beating up simply because he wanted something that rightfully belonged to someone else).

I still believe that the Proper Role of Government is to protect our Liberties – free travel is a [n unwritten] Constitutional Right.  It is NOT a Constitutional value that we be exposed to those that can and do present an imminent physical danger to the rest of us.
