The Manchester paper is reporting that the NH AG needs a few more weeks to complete their investigation of (now) former New London Police Chief David Seastrand, Seastrand was alleged to have offered to drop charges against a Colby Saywer College student if she agreed to pose nude for him. She refused and called the AG. Smart girl. But to what end? As I observed back on April 4th…
Seastrand has 27 years in. What are the odds this is the first time he’s used his position of power for his personal advantage or pleasure? And now he gets to retire at what, maybe 50 years of age? So the AG just lets him walk away, no in depth investigation, and very likely with his full pension. Not exactly a punishment is it? You get caught using your police powers to bully a woman and they make you quit without charging you and (assuming he’s keeping his pension) give you a big bag of money every year until you die.
Exit question: Does anyone else come forward, Tiger Woods style, to start piling up accusations of improper conduct or does Seastrand retire in modest comfort and melt into the landscape?
We got the answer to both those questions.
On April 10th we reported that more women were coming forward. And now we have this.
As part of the disposition, he (Seastrand) agreed to resign and permanently relinquish his police officer certification. Officials at the New Hampshire Retirement System said Seastrand’s resignation will not affect his retirement benefits, which will pay him about $53,000 per year, according to the system’s formula.
There were more women, and he will get to keep his pension. No word on the real ‘depth of the investigtion’ or what happens if he is convicted of something but I’m guessing that his pension will not suffer. I guess that means that the “system formula” encourages sexual harassment and the real war on women. A ‘war’ whose casualties will be much larger than what we will ever learn as “war veteran” Seastrand takes his pension and “experience” into the private security business post-scandal to pad his taxpayer funded payout every year for the rest of his non-public life.
