The Los Angeles city council voted 13-1 to ban plastic shopping bags in grocery stores. There is a lengthy review and implementation process to follow but if all goes to plan within about 10-12 months the ban will be in force. Paper bags will still be available for a ten cent fee. I like to think of it as a tax.
I’ve been following this story with some amusement (What could go wrong, and Norovirus). As with all left wing flights of fancy, there are far reaching side effects that end up costing society more than the measure enacted. I just can’t help thinking this is another one of those.
