Nice hoax. They say it’s real…but…”not.”

This is a cool hoax going around now. It’s presumably a project done by engineers and musicians. This machine was supposedly built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa. 97% of the machine’s components are said to have come from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa (aka “farm equipment”; note, by the way, how all the balls are caught and presumably re-used). They say it “took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video, but as you can see it was well worth the effort. It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.”

I don’t think so…. Accordingly, I’ll believe it when someone convincingly comfirms it. In the meantime…how did all those Frenchmen get to the University of Iowa?
