Democrat cities with crime problems are forever making excuses while claiming to seek remedies. Their solutions inevitably make matters worse because the problem is Democrats. If you want more crime, elect them and keep them.
Burlington, Vermont, has a crime problem because of “Democrats.” They defunded the police in 2020/2021, invited the homeless, illegals, and embraced many of the woke criminal policies favored by the left. And that’s the voters. They ask for this in every election, then complain about it to the people who can only make it worse, then reward them with more time in office on the promise that this time they will fix it.
It’s not a good look if you want people to believe you are more intelligent or clever than the rest of us. Maybe stop pretending to want less crime since you obviously want more of it.
Take the recent shooting outside a bar in Burlington. The city thought that banning firearms in bars might be a good way to reduce homicides, even though most of them happen elsewhere. Correlation, causation, you know the drill. We hate guns. Ban them when you can. Use tragedy to advance the cause. But banning guns hasn’t reduced homicides anywhere it has been tried, but it will when we do it.
Burlington can’t just ban guns in bars; it needs the legislature’s approval, so it rushed through an ordinance and sent it to Montpellier to get the nod from the people’s big house and a signature from Gov. Scott. The Dem majority legislature is on board, but Gov Scott, ostensibly a Republican, is not, and the Left lacks the votes to override a promised veto without some Republican help they are unlikely to get.
People drinking in bars with guns are a threat to public health and safety. What do we do? Make the temporary COVID-ERA cocktails-to-go policy legal.
“Cocktails to-go have not only been a great additional source of revenue for local bars and restaurants, but adult consumers have come to expect the added convenience they offer,” said Andy Deloney, a spokesperson for the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. “We applaud the Legislature and Governor Scott for supporting Vermont businesses and consumers.”
The Green Mountain State first permitted businesses to sell cocktails for at-home consumption on a temporary basis during the pandemic. Without further legislation, businesses would have had to stop offering cocktails to-go as of July 1 this year.
This made me laugh in the context of Burlington’s intellectual Rube-Goldbergian justification for banning guns in bars. Everyone knows guns and alcohol don’t mix, which is why we frown on it everywhere, but if you argue that the problem is alcohol, so we must ban guns adjacent, this new law is amusing in that context.
I guess Alcohol doens’t kill people, guns kill people – but then why the bar ban esecially when the shooting that inspired it was outside a bar not in it where there will now be takeaway cocktails and guns?
I’m fine with the cocktail takeaway law, which is statewide. No one’s going to ban alcohol (again) or bars or restaurants with bars, nor shoudl they, so that leaves Burlington with its crime problem, which it would like to blame on guns, but banning guns would only make it worse. They are eager to try despite the supermajority of crime in America occuring in Democrat controlled cities with draconian gun laws, bans, gun free zones and other hoops, shutes, ladders, and obstacle courses to deter American’s from adopting their natural right to self defense.
They are wrong, as usal, about everything.
It’s not a gun problem or an alcohol problem; it’s a Democrat problem. But Burlington is so infected with progressives incapable of voting for anyone else (or worse, the socialists who run against the Democrats) that the only solution is for sane people to get the hell out of Burlington.
And don’t forget to take a few cocktails with you.
