BEST: How Misogyny Thrives in Concord, New Hampshire

If you have watched any of the City Council meetings for Concord, New Hampshire, in recent months, you’ll be left gasping at the level of misogyny.

At the most recent City Council meeting, Mayor Byron Champlin shut down female councilor Stacey Brown. She kept her cool and made her point, sounding reasoned, logical, and methodical.

Several women serve on the Concord City Council. One is Amanda Grady Sexton, Director of Public Affairs for the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence. She did not support her fellow female councilor. Nor did Councilor Kris Schultz, who is also running for re-election as a member of the State House. In fact, Kris Schultz apparently violated city rules by cutting off Stacey Brown without following the protocols allowing a councilor to speak uninterrupted.

Kris Schultz, Amanda Grady Sexton, Jennifer Kretovic, Judith Kurtz, Michele Horn, and Aislinn Kalob all said nothing when Mayor Byron Champlin used the F word against their female colleague Stacey Brown in the January 2026 Council meeting. They also said nothing when male councilor Fred Keach stood up, pointed his finger at Councilor Brown, and used the F word against her. He was once charged with child endangerment and a DUI.

While Kris Schultz hasn’t supported her female colleague against blatant misogyny, she also called for Rep. Ellen Read to be removed from the State House for using the F word in the hallway of the Senate outside a hearing for one of Rep. Read’s bills — HB1633 — a sexual assault victims’ rights bill authored by Rep. Read. Ellen Read was censured by the male Speaker of the House, Sherman Packard. Meanwhile, he was caught on a hot mic using expletives against a female member of the House inside the Chamber. He was not censured, and no females in the so-called victims’ rights crowd spoke up.

When women don’t stand up for other women who think independently, they are supporting misogyny. We don’t have to all agree with each other. That’s the point of having multiple representatives on any City Council or in any State House. As far as I can see, no male councilor in Concord has ever been shut down the way that Councilor Stacey Brown has been shut down, sworn at, and labeled with smears. The City Council is the embodiment of an Old Boys Club with Molls supporting the boys and smearing the women who don’t subscribe to the consensus.

Empowering women means supporting all women to have their own viewpoint, to not get shut down by male mayors or Speakers of the House, and to not be shut down by cutting them off to support whatever the convenient consensus happens to be.

It was one female member of Congress who disagreed that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. She was right.

It was female members of the IDF who reported unusual activity prior to the October 7th massacre. They were right, and they were ignored.

A female FBI agent warned of signs of 9/11 before it happened. She was ignored. She was right.

You don’t have to like Stacey Brown. You don’t have to like Ellen Read. But the misogyny against them that is supported by women who claim to support women’s rights is beyond extraordinary and disturbing. If their voices don’t matter, then why does Henry T. Nicholas III matter to the female City Councilors in Concord? He got labeled a “victim” by Councilor Amanda Grady Sexton, and yet his long history shows that he threatened to “whack” his wife; he boasted about drugging prostitutes with ecstasy, and he kept an underground sex and drug lair under his house, which he hid from his family.

Elections are coming up. Make sure you are not voting for a Gangster or a Moll.
