I wish Mr. Granger lived in my town so I could replace him. He obviously has a GOD complex. But it may not be a mental defect. Maybe he is just ignorant.
People should first:
1. READ ARTICLE V.
2. READ THE LANGUAGE IN THE PROPOSAL.
They are both legal documents that must be followed and enforced. The language is specific and has limitations.
We are all ignorant about something. The good news is that ignorance is curable. It only needs an open mind and the willingness to listen to others.
It may not be possible, but I want to try to cure his ignorance with some facts that he should know but may have forgotten.
1. The writers of the Constitution gave a unique power to the State Legislators to rein in an out-of-control government. Mr. Granger is refusing to use the authority given to him to make that happen.
2. The Article V Convention being proposed is NOT a Conventional Convention. It uses the exact language in the Constitution: “…propose Amendments to this Constitution…”. By its own language, it does not remove or ignore the Constitution. That is not allowed. Any motion to do that would not be allowed. All delegates would refuse to support. States would recall delegates who thought to support. This will be televised. People across the country would demand that person be arrested and tried for treason.
3. The Article V Petition limits discussions to only three topics. Article V says proposals would be done as if they came from Congress. But this Convention proposal is also self-limiting the discussions. Why doesn’t Mr. Granger fight with Congress when they discuss items that are restricted in Article1, Section 4?
4. Proposals have been introduced to ensure delegates support the mandates they get from the States. The delegates will be appointed by the State and act as their agent. If they violate those guidelines, they could face punishments (fines, jail), and their votes could be negated. But I bet Mr. Granger will not support that bill either.
5. Anywhere along the line, there are many controls to prevent radicalism. In the end, the Article V Convention HAS NO POWER TO CHANGE ANYTHING. They can only submit proposals to the States, and three-quarters of all the States’ legislatures must agree to be ratified.
That is very difficult. Only 27 Amendments have done that. All were done using Article V. All have been proposed by a self-serving Congress with vested interests and decades of benefits and interests to preserve. This Convention’s proposals will be submitted by delegates from the States, using the same method that created the Constitution and gave Congress its limited powers. And Article V gave the states the power to rein in an out-of-control government.
Mr. Granger may have some power to stop NH from authorizing this Article V Convention, but when it is held, NH delegates will be there looking for solutions.
I did not see anything he wrote to fix the Term Limits problem, control federal spending, or limit the broad reach of powers not authorized by the Constitution.
HE HAS NO SOLUTION BUT IS DEFINITELY PART OF THE PROBLEM.
Already, 20 of the needed 34 States have approved their resolutions. I would like NH to be #21. Every voter should demand that your legislator support the Article V and the Delegate Control resolutions when they come up for passage.
