November elections are coming, which is one reason the League chose to have their annual 2A Freedom Rally in September this year. Why? Because many people seem to skip out during midterm elections. There is far too much at stake to do that this year, if you care about your 2nd Amendment Rights and fundamental right to self-defense.
In the last midterm elections during President Trump’s first term, the entire NH House, Senate, and Executive Council flipped from red to blue. The only ‘saving grace’ as far as 2nd Amendment issues are concerned, was that Chris Sununu kept his seat in the corner office as governor that election cycle. However you may have disagreed with Sununu on other issues, he was absolutely solid when it came to protecting our 2nd Amendment rights.
What happened during the Democrat rule over the legislature – LOTS OF GUN CONTROL.
Here are just some examples of the gun control Democrats either passed (VETOED by Governor Sununu) or tried to pass. And this is just a short list of what NH Democrats REALLY want to pass – they previously had Legislative Service Requests for an ‘assault weapons ban’ and creating a committee to discuss REPEALING NH’s 2A.
HB 101, allowing school districts to make gun control laws. This legislation will allow each school district to make whatever gun control law they want (going against State Law). This legislation would wreak havoc for law-abiding citizens because each school district could have different laws. This opens up an extremely slippery slope of allowing cities and towns to make up their own gun control laws across the state.
HB 109, requiring background checks for private firearms sales AND transfers. This legislation will actually make it impossible for women to get gun safety training! This legislation will turn law-abiding citizens into criminals all while criminals continue to completely ignore existing laws! It’s the same exact California gun control legislation they have tried to pass 3 previous times.
It also creates a “register of each sale” (gun registry) which is expressly prohibited by federal law. For the record, commercial firearm sales are already covered in existing statute.
HB 564, banning law-abiding citizens from carrying concealed firearms in a ‘safe school zone.’ Currently, those who have pistol/revolver licenses are allowed, per federal law, to carry concealed on school grounds. CRIMINALS have never obeyed ‘gun free zone’ laws, which is why schools are often targets. This law will further enable criminals to more easily prey on our children.
HB 687, AN ACT relative to extreme risk protection orders, uses the guise of ‘protection’ when in reality it is nothing but GUN CONFISCATION.
The rights of law-abiding gun owners across the state can be stripped away by an angry ex-husband or wife; a psychopathic ex-roommate; a pissed off Mother-in-Law; an abusive boyfriend OR the police can file a petition on ANYONE at ANY TIME.

HB 696, “VULNERABLE ADULT PROTECTIVE ORDERS.” With the singular exceptions of a specific reference to obtaining a protective order against someone charged with abuse of any type of a vulnerable person and forcibly disarming them, existing law provides the means of identifying and working to prevent such abuse.
Bottom line, all you really need to know is that the word firearm is used in HB 696 26 times; the word vulnerable 21 times. HB 696 provides no aid or comfort to vulnerable adults. HB 696 leaves alleged abusers with baseball bats, brass knuckles, chain saws, explosive air-nailers, bear spray, kitchen knives, assorted household corrosives and their bare hands.
The only “relief” HB 696 offers is just another piece of paper.
These aren’t even all the bills, but you get the point. EVERY session Democrats push gun control funded by New York City billionaire Michael Bloomberg who has spent over a MILLION dollars funding gun control lobbying efforts in the Granite State.
One reason the League holds our 2A Freedom rally every year is to REMIND legislators that the majority of Granite Staters support our FREEDOM and especially our 2nd Amendment rights. We take these rights seriously and fight to remove obstacles in our way and fight against gun control that is pushed to infringe upon those rights.
The 2026 elections in November are critical elections that will dictate whether New Hampshire remains the ‘Live Free or Die’ state or becomes no different than Marxichusetts, in more ways than one.
