SMITH: Pretend-Republicans Harpoon Right to Work

HB1704, aka Right to Work, was the last bill of the day when the House met yesterday, and a Dem moved to indefinitely postpone it.  He got his way, 177-159, with the help of 20 accomplices that pretend to be Republicans.  Out of those 20 rogues, half of them are ENEMIES OF 91A, a serious issue that plagues NH in all branches and levels of government, and won’t disappear just because some people want to ignore the problem.  Also among the same 20 rogues are 6 STICKER TAX PRESERVATIONISTS, 4 of which are also enemies of 91A.

I’ve compiled lists before, so here are the current lovers of the closed shop with the enemies of 91A asterisked and the sticker tax preservationists marked with a “^.”

  • Boehm*
  • Bordes*
  • Boyd*^
  • Bridle
  • Bryer
  • Coker*
  • Foote*
  • Khan*^
  • D Mannion
  • Miles
  • D Murphy
  • Nelson*^
  • M Pearson*
  • S Pearson*^
  • Porcelli
  • Proulx^
  • Spilsbury*
  • Taylor
  • Vandecasteele^
  • Vose

With the above being said, let’s also shame the Rs that abstained.  “But it was the last bill of a very long day,” one might point out.  To that, I will point out that anyone who was elected to do the People’s Work, especially the members who are not freshmen, ought to have already known that crossover time involves long days in March.  Anyone who walked out before voting on HB1704 owes their constituents an explanation for what appears to be cowardice.  The following Rs were NOT EXCUSED at the time of their failure to vote in the last roll call.

  • Ankarberg (formerly R, now I)
  • Dumais
  • Guthrie
  • Minor
  • Morency
  • B Morse
  • M Murphy
  • Speaker Packard (absent all day, but not excused)
  • Presa
  • Rice
  • Trottier

Now that I’m done condemning the bad actors on Team Red(for now), I will finish with saying something nice, like parents would when their kids bring up their GPAs from mediocrity.  Positive reinforcement is a good thing, so please join me in saying thanks to Rep Flanagan for voting the right way in this particular roll call because he voted the wrong way on the previous RTW bill. Oh, and one final thought; will Queen Sharon send thank you notes to those 20 rogues responsible for keeping HB1704 away from “her side of the wall” with donations to their campaigns?
