SMITH: New Boston Gift Ideas

In this gift-giving season, you might ask what’s special about New Boston.  Pay attention if you or someone you know votes there because their rep (one of them) is Keith Ammon and Denise is their Senator.  December 16 is their mutual birthday.  What do you give them?

Keith Ammon has an excellent record, which includes voting YES on HB 649.  You might consider treating him to his very last forced sticker, and perhaps one for his wife if her car is registered to him.  Every legislator gets two vanity plates.  Did you know that?  No matter your answer, it doesn’t necessarily mean each rep has exactly two cars, but I digress.  You could get him one of those “Live Free and Drive” fundraiser stickers to show your appreciation for his service to New Boston, one of the reddest towns in NH.  I’ve been there several times in my travels, paddling the Piscataquog River, and being a warm body at the GOP table for Lily at their fair.  Lots of Trump signs and signs for Team Red candidates can be seen there during campaign season, which leads nicely into another gift suggestion, which isn’t limited to New Bostonians.

Anyone can donate to any campaign, so show Keith some love with a contribution, but there’s a Part Deux.  With that contribution, send him a note of praise, particularly telling him that reps with good records are “senate-worthy,” to use some Seinfeld-speak, and that he makes an excellent challenger to Denise, who does NOT live in red New Boston.  You might even look up each town in purple District 9 for voter turnout numbers in primaries.  You might consider that New Boston (and some mid-district towns) have Red Purity, unlike Bedford (home to Denise), which is only 71% red in the House.

There are 13 towns in District 9, and it’s important to consider that some of them share reps, which is not uncommon in rural areas.  With that said, let’s look at all 13 towns represented in the senate by Denise, in the most west to east geographic order.

  • Hinsdale 100% blue
  • Winchester 100% red
  • Richmond 67% red
  • Fitzwilliam 100% red
  • Troy 100% red
  • Jaffrey 67% red
  • Sharon 100% blue(Does Queen Sharon know?)
  • Temple 100% red(really good quality red)
  • Greenfield 100% blue
  • Lyndeborough 100% red
  • Mont Vernon 100% red
  • New Boston 100% red
  • Bedford 71% red

If you’re good at data processing, please compile the above numbers to form additional talking points in selling, um, I mean GIVING(Remember it’s a gift.) the idea to Keith that he should make a senate run next year.  Now, what would be good gifts for Denise?

You don’t have to vote in District 9 to consider the following suggestions.  If you or someone you know owns or operates an official inspection station, think services rather than goods, or perhaps both.  Denise would certainly be more appreciative of the service, which is inspecting her car, than the good, which is the tax stamp, um, I mean STICKER.  Maybe she has more than one car. It’s something to find out if multiple people are interested.  If that’s not your thing, then play it safe and go with anything hair care(goods or services) that meet with her taste.  Even if you give her an umbrella, that’s arguably a hair care item and a safe choice. If you’re Jim, Della’s husband, sell your watch to fund a gift for Denise.  If you’re a stylist, offer her your services.  If you’re not, there’s always a gift card for goods or services.  And my last suggestion would be most suitable for the Bedfordites.

Send her a thank you note for all her public service(senator, town councilor, poll worker, and whatever else on her resume), and don’t forget all her volunteer and charity work.  I will finish by praising Denise for her local control preservation-oriented senate chamber speeches against HB 631 and HB 685 on 5/8/25 and reminding ALL readers that Peter Leishman’s bill to resurrect the sticker tax MUST die in the HOUSE this spring.
