Tell NH Executive Council to Reject Radical State Librarian Nominee

Melinda “Mindy” Atwood, nominated for the position of New Hampshire state librarian by Gov. Chris Sununu, pushes the book ban myth, the American Library Association’s (ALA) weapon used to silence and humiliate anyone who objects to materials that sexualize children and push their radical agenda.

In October 2023, Assistant State Librarian Atwood cohosted an online presentation, “Unite Against Book Bans: ALA’s Policy Corp Changing the Narrative.” The workshop explored the impact of book challenges on “DEI work, many of the targeted themes are central to equity, diversity, and inclusion with LGBTQIA+ and antiracism themes.”

Atwood’s workshop dismisses anyone who questions whether teen books with illustrations depicting oral sex or children’s books pushing the lie that girls who play in the mud are really boys and feature pictures of men in bondage costumes and bearded women with mastectomy scars as extremists pushing their own radical agenda.

According to workshop materials:

These actions apparently rise from a view that our national tradition of free expression is no longer valid; that censorship and suppression are needed to counter threats to safety or national security, as well as to avoid the subversion of politics and the corruption of morals.

The presenters compared concerned parents to Anthony Comstock, an early 20th-century right-wing activist who opposed gambling and contraception and destroyed 15,000 tons of books.

Workshop participants learned about legislation that might interfere with their agenda, such as “we can trust individuals to make their own decisions about what they read and believe.” The ALA doesn’t believe in age-appropriate materials. The ALA “opposes all attempts to restrict access to library services, materials, and facilities based on the age of library users.”

In truth, the ALA has no problem with censorship. The American Library Association offers a webinar to help librarians flag “transphobic works” using a catalog resource called the “Homosaurus.” The ALA’s slides singled out Abigail Shrier’s “Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters” as a book that doesn’t belong on their shelves.

The ALA has a long history of using local taxes to indoctrinate children with queer theory, critical race theory, and Transgenderism. Promoting Atwood to a position whose duties include directing “any programs, plans, or projects” at the New Hampshire State Library gives her broad power to radicalize children and to silence and humiliate their parents.

Contact your Executive Councilor before their next meeting on Wednesday, December 4, and ask him or her to reject Melinda Atwood’s nomination to be state librarian.
