On October 16, 2024, a grand jury indicted Supreme Court Justice Hantz Marconi, charging her with two felonies and five misdemeanors for attempting to interfere with a criminal investigation. As the story unfolds, you must wonder what is happening here. Attorney Formella’s press release stated:
“No person is above the law, and the evidence in this case required investigation and presentation to the grand jury,” said Attorney General Formella. “The decision to charge a sitting Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court was not made lightly, and it comes after careful and thoughtful deliberation. It is my hope that the public will be reassured that all individuals, including public officials, are treated equally under the law.
In Nashua, I can assure you that we are not reassured that your office is going after public officials equally under the law. Time and time again, Nashua officials mismanage money and violate laws, and the Attorney General’s office looks the other way.
We in Nashua sent your office a voluminous complaint with claims of fraud, mismanagement of public funds, falsification of records, and violation of statutes involving a $34 million arts center. This art center was funded in a Federal scheme that resulted in three sham shell corporations being set up, two of which “left no fingerprints” with the IRS. These are off-book corporations funded with taxpayer money. Nashua is strapped with years of debt, undisclosed to us, and a center not filling the seats regularly.
Your office trashed the complaint without so much as a letter, phone call, or email providing concerned working citizens with a professional response. This appears to be the standard treatment by NH Attorneys. Your office is unprofessional, unethical, and dishonorable.
It is pretty clear in NH that Citizens do not have a voice in government, and when serious issues arise, we cannot count on the AG’s office to perform its duties.
Whatever is going on between the AG’s office, the Governor, and the Supreme Court Justices, it’s a hot conflicted mess that looks like a pissing contest among the powerful. The actions of your office have reassured me that the citizens don’t count. Nashua officials’ ability to get away with it has revealed to me the protection afforded to attorneys and the corruption of your office.
