Jeff Woodburn Gets Himself Into Trouble in Maine

Former Democrat State Senator Jeff Woodburn has been back in the news for trying to dodge a 30-day stint in stir. That was not (it seems) enough drama for him. He took a little trip to Maine, where he coincidentally found himself within shouting distance of his former fiancé. The woman whose arm he bit, dryer he broke, and front door he kicked in. Upon learning of his presence, she notified the police and requested an Emergency Protection from Abuse (PFA) Order, which was granted by a judge in Maine.

I’m not clear on the order of events, but Mr. Woodburn is seeking to avoid legal consequences there, filing a motion with a long list of reasons why having to present himself to the court over this wastes everyone’s time, especially his. The court is 105 miles from where he lives. He isn’t familiar with Maine’s judicial procedure nor knows any lawyers in the state. The case has been tried and decided, and he doesn’t see why a second PDA was necessary, as the one he is under in NH should apply regardless of where he travels. And yet he still chose to vacation in the town approximately 115 miles away from his where he knows the woman he is not supposed to go near lives.

Maine must be a lot smaller than it appears on the map.

The judge has since noted that Mr. Woodburn is not under any order restricting travel in the state and must appear on the 23rd in person or via Zoom if arrangements are made with the clerk. I suspect he will do the latter, but the 23rd is a Friday. He could make it a long weekend. Spend a few more days relaxing in Vacationland – someplace nice but maybe not so close to you know who. Or how about jail. He could hang out there and will as all delays have been addressed or dismissed.
