In November of 2023, some nutjob shot three college students in Burlington, Vermont. Jason Eaton was later identified and arrested for the shootings, which left one of his victims paralyzed. This past week, a jury found Eaton guilty on three counts of attempted murder.
His defense? “Eaton’s lawyers argued that he was not criminally responsible because of mental illness.”
During the trial, the defense presented evidence that Eaton believed the CIA and Israeli intelligence agency Mossad were communicating with him through FM radio and directing his actions.
He should have claimed he was a woman with postpartum depression. Just saying. Probably would have walked.
And so we are clear: Eaton should be in jail, but so should Lindsey Clancy.
The issue isn’t whether they were criminally responsible; it is how we came to a place in our culture where murder or attempted murder is something we so easily dismiss or, in too many cases, applaud. As I wrote recently in “The Left’s Growing Culture of Death,”
We are devaluing life and creating a community that values convenience more than humanity. That community defines its government, and that government is always looking for an excuse to give itself the power to remove what it deems inconvenient. Progressive/socialist governments, of which the modern Democrat Party is an ideological descendant, hold all the records for genocide.
The women who are applauding and defending abortion at birth, or Lindsey Clancy, or the assassinations of Charlie Kirk, killed while holding court in the name of free speech and open debate, or Brian Thompson, who was just walking on a New York City street, are occupying the same headspace required to exterminate tens of millions of people because they were othered and then murdered.
You have to accept the possibility that all the baby-killing (in and out of the womb), claiming empathy as an excuse to off the sick or old (assisted suicide), or the applause for assassinations, have created a foundation upon which future murderers and attmpted murders feel compelled to stand.
“Othering” at any point in the arc of life devalues it, and we need to reverse course.
Lindsey Clancy was in a bad place. Killed her kids. Tried to kill herself. So, what does the government do? It green-lights a visitation program disguised as empathy for new moms. The government is going to come to your home and “check on you.” Keep in mind, this is the same government (Massachusetts) that just made abortion at birth legal. That imposed medical mandates, locked you down, wanted you to rat out your neighbors, and even ‘asked you’ to take in illegal criminal aliens so they could pack the US House and Electoral College with more “votes” for Democrats.
The sort of ideological purists who would view a MAGA hat, a Gadsden T-shirt, or a crucifix as proof that the home is unfit for children whom, at every opportunity, they indoctrinate and groom in the government schools.
And as Jeff Chidester pointed out in our monthly segment on WFEA Wednesday morning, what if you refuse to let them in? What if you don’t want them visiting you or coming into your home for these reasons, or any other?
Any state actor will observe and report if they haven’t been told to do exactly that.
Does DCY show up later because they smelled, heard, or saw something, with local cops in tow, to take your children from you and put them “in a system” that even liberal Hollywood consistently portrays as broken, dangerous, and bad for children?
How does the immigrant community feel about being “seen” this way?
And why is Jason Eaton’s claim different from Lindsey Clancy’s?
Jason is going to prison for a very long time, and he should. Lindsey will most likely have to endure another trial, the outcome of which is uncertain, but she ended three lives for reasons no one will ever know. Jason only tried, too, but a jury deemed his “voices” an inadequate defense, while nearly all of Clancey’s jurors thought hers justified her actions.
Different cases and circumstances, different courtrooms, different lawyers, all of which matter, but operating in a declining moral culture. One where the people who thought Lindsey was innocent and Jason was guilty try to hide illegal alien rapists and murderers from law enforcement and let career criminals walk free – then make excuses when that results in murder.
