MACDONALD: CNN’s WNBA Struggle Session

I can’t even call the pleasure it gives me Schadenfreude because the Handmaiden media is in complete denial over why it keeps losing audience and market share regardless of the medium. Forced to compete in the arena of not just ideas but how they get reported, the J-School elites are the band on the Titanic, only no one told them to keep playing.

A recent example comes courtesy of Newsbusters. In what can only be called a CNN-approved narrative circle jerk, one left-wing CNN talking head commiserates with another about a non-scandal that shouldn’t have any relevance.

So, what if the WNBA’s woke stance on what a woman is could result in men dominating in the league? There aren’t any in the league. Yet. It’s like dismissing the pilot who says he’s okay with flying into the side of a mountain you can see, but you’re not there yet.

Any ranked high school boys’ team could probably beat any WNBA women’s team today. Right now. If you let them play a full season, they’d dominate with little effort and win the championship. A non-ranked boys’ team could likely do the same.

Pretending otherwise to pander to a destructive partisan cultural agenda is insane, but it’s also dangerous. Case in point. DiJonai Carrington deliberately elbowed Sophie Cunningham in the face. She got ejected, shouted white supremacy, stirring the pot. Sophie got an elbow for daring to acknowledge the obvious. Boys and men will erase the W in WNBA. Now imagine what would happen to DiJonai Carrington’s face if Enes Kanter Freedom “accidentally” elbowed it because she elbowed Sophie of just ‘cuz reasons, whihc wah Carrington’s motivation?

It might kill her. At the very least, she’d likely be unconscious, and potentially unable to play for some span of time, which is no skin off the owners’ backs if they can fill her spot with a 6-7, 240-pound power forward who, for basketball purposes, identifies as a woman.

Would she have the balls to call that what it is? Trans-privilege?

She doesn’t have balls; she’s just scrappy, but not so much after someone erased her nose from her face “by mistake,” spinning away to open some space for a shot.

Sorry about your face, and hey, let’s hold that straight privilege you’re exercising from your emergency room hospital bed. Looks bad for the team and the league.

None of that would ever occur to a pair of CNN stiffs.

CNN sports anchor Don Riddell joined Thursday’s News Central to explain it is actually “a non-issue” that is being exploited by “political agitators” who are pushing “divisive agendas in the culture war.”

Host Brianna Keilar wondered, “Don, not only did Cunningham’s comments ignite demonstrations on both sides of this debate, the controversy has been elevated by some former NBA players who have declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft. What is the league doing about this?” …

“As you rightly pointed out there, there aren’t any trans players in the league. And yet Cunningham’s call to ban trans girls and women from girls and women’s sports has made it a real thing. And the actions of political agitators who probably couldn’t tell you that much about the league are now using the WNBA to push their own divisive agendas in the culture wars.”

Teachers and librarians didn’t use to groom children without fear of criminal prosecution. They didn’t make sexually explicit material available for grade school kids to browse, nor would they openly recommend or read it.

Doctors and health professionals used to help the mentally ill, not profit from their infirmity with expensive telehealth visits, chemical or surgical castration.

They certainly didn’t encourage rules or policies that would significantly elevate the likelihood of girls and women getting harmed or raped.

But objecting to that sort of thing is THE divisive political agenda.

Note to the CNN talking heads. A significant majority of Americans agree with Sophie, which is why you keep losing audience and market share to other formats and information portals. But you can keep that band playing while your ship sinks. Just remember that when you start crying and whining like the woke libs at CBS who want struggle sessions and crying rooms after Bari Weiss took over the news division, your brand of “truth” is running out of safe spaces and the kind of money you demand when you’re in them.
