PETRUZZIELLO: The SAVE America Act

Many recent elections have ended with the losing party claiming that voter fraud and cheating took place. While the winning party steadfastly denies that any cheating or voting irregularities took place, insisting that there’s nothing to see here. What happens next? Everyone moves on and goes back to sleep.

Having a preferred political candidate lose an election is easier to accept if you believe the election was conducted fairly.

Any cheating is wrong, period, and it should not be tolerated.

The SAVE America Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) is intended to standardize basic voting requirements to increase overall voter confidence in election outcomes. The bill requires voters to prove they are US citizens when they first register to vote, and to show a photo ID every time they cast a ballot.

Granite Staters are already required to show a photo ID to vote, so why do our representatives not support this legislation? Do they feel it’s too hard for Americans in other states to do the same thing Granite Staters are somehow able to do?

Does anyone really believe that American citizens are too dumb to accomplish these two basic things in order to vote? Does anyone really believe that women are incapable of updating their identity documents when marrying or divorcing?

Shouldn’t producing an ID before casting a vote to elect the people who will be representing you in Congress be a no-brainer?

Can you get state or federal benefits without an ID?

Can you check out a library book without an ID?

Can you buy tobacco products without an ID?

Can you open a bank account without an ID?

Can you cash a check without an ID?

Our representatives’ logic for opposing this legislation is both ridiculous and outrageous. Why would they not want secure elections? This should be a nonpartisan common-sense issue.

Cheating hurts ALL Americans, regardless of political party. One fraudulent vote cancels one legitimate vote and silences the voice of one American. When we consciously allow this to happen, we, the people, give away our power and silence our own voices.  Allowing cheating to continue, or ignoring it even exists, transfers the people’s power to political parties and politicians.

When politicians no longer need our votes, they can then impose THEIR will on us, and we can never vote them out of power.  This completely upends the will of our founders.

Once the people’s voice is silenced, we’ve ALL lost our freedom, regardless of political party.

Of course, elections will continue, wink, wink, but the outcomes will have already been determined, but not by us. Our freedom of speech, our right to keep and bear arms, and anything else that offends them will be gone, and we’ll be powerless to do anything about it.

The people who oppose this bill are telling us that there is no voter fraud, noncitizens aren’t voting, and there’s no need to improve our election security.

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

God gave us common sense and the ability to reason.

If we don’t protect our vote, we will no longer have a “government of the people, by the people, for the people” — Abraham Lincoln

If you don’t want our republic to perish from the earth, call your senators and representatives and don’t ask them, TELL them to support the SAVE America Act. After all, they’re supposed to work for us.

God Bless America on her 250th Birthday!
