Democrats don’t hate the police, and they love surveillance. Their dystopian socialist utopia is impossible without both. They don’t hate guns either, just guns that might interfere with their militarized police state. So, the whole defund the police thing was a smoke screen. It wasn’t about bad cops or systemic racism; it was an excuse to elevate crime and drive local outrage that they could then use to ask for federal help (from a Democrat administration).
Make more victims to create a federalized police force run by DC that makes everyone a victim of the abuse of government force.
They aren’t mad at Trump for sending in the National Guard; they are pissed off because he is doing it to reduce crime.
Part of the joy ride was the idea that local cops were just awful human beings violating everyone’s rights. To show the world their “truth,” when Libertarians demanded body cams for the right reasons, Liberals jumped in on all fours. Yes!!!. Finally. We will have reams of footage to show why we need cops regulated by the federal government, blah blah blah. [Related: Morning Update: “What the Flock!”]
Remember, local cops, sheriffs in particular, are a problem for the central planners. If they answer to the state or county government instead of DC, taking over the place is a lot harder and messier.
Body Worn Cameras (BWC), and full disclosure, I work for a company that offers them to public safety as one of many technology upgrades to improve data gathering, reporting, and security, have been embraced by street cops because they protect cops from criminals, and liberals, if you think there is a separation between the two.
They are not perfect. The cops and those who are in charge of them control everything about their use. Hiding bad things is human nature. But Dems who were all in on them as a gotcha, thinking they’d be in control, are discovering it isn’t such a great thing when they are not.
The new narrative is that we brought this upon ourselves, but don’t buy any of this walking-back business. The proglodyte empire will have lots of cops and lots of cameras. [Related: Should Teachers Have to Wear Body Cameras in the Classroom?]
Anyway, Twitchy has some excellent examples of Dems behaving badly on body-worn cameras, which, added to the regular street criminal problem of their “voters” behaving badly, just adds to the need for more BWCs more often.
