This coming Wednesday, I will publish the 150th installment of the Morning Update. I started it on September 18th, 2025, on a whim, and a strong personal and professional need to 1) get better at doing off-the-cuff video shots, and 2) to increase our presence in the space. I opened with, ” Don’t get used to this.”
“It’s never too early to have a pale-faced man talk to you about the news. Don’t get used to it.”
I got used to it, and so did viewers who sent me emails and texts asking me to continue. I did, and we’re coming up on episode 150. It started as the GT Morning Update. GT for GrokTALK. I dropped that at some point, but throughout, I had camera and lighting issues; no matter what I did, I looked like a lobster, and I got the date or day wrong more than a few times. As my equipment aged – it was old when I started – it became clear I needed to invest in upgrades, but the thing grew audience, and that’s the goal. Spread the message, and not just mine – yours as well.
I have not missed a weekday since and have done a few bonus weekend versions as well. Folks like it, I like doing it, and it’s a fixture I’m looking to grow.
Say hello to shorts. Quick shots and derivation of the old Grok Shot. A little something-something in your hot morning beverage of choice. And yes, the editing software tries to create them for me, but until now, I’ve not been impressed. And yes, Substack creates them and shares them on my personal YouTube channel, and I let it so it’s not exactly new, but those are like the aforementioned variety, not exactly what I’m after.
The potential audience is significant and could drive a lot of traffic. Those reels are inspired by apps like Instagram and TikTok, though their roots lie in Vines, ten-second video shorts from decades past.
The Morning Update was inspired by the notion that long-form video was fine for podcasts, but most people won’t or can’t sit through that unless it’s on a commute, walking a dog, jogging, or some such thing. Five minutes or less, that’s probably a good length. It is, but it’s still too long for some, so the Morning Update has added quick shots. “Shorts” that are 90 seconds or less.
Here’s the first one to give you a sense of what I’m doing with this.
Please subscribe to the ‘Grok Rumble Channel or follow the ‘Grok X Account to see them. That’s where they will drop first. You can also catch them or click a link to them in the sidebar of any page at GraniteGrok.com. I will add them under the Morning Update’s also available in the sidebar.
And yes, I will change how the captions display so you can see them in these clips.
Frequency will depend on what can be boiled down from the Morning Updates, and I’m not opposed to doing them like most people. In the car. Out and about. Hey, I had this thought I wanted to share.
Check them out, as well as all of our other content. And while I’m at it, sign up for our New and Improved Newsletter delivered daily via Substack. I can probably find a way to drop a quick shot in there from time to time as well.
