MORIN: We Must LEARN from the MONSTROUS Murder of Iryna Zarutska

From the Women’s Defense League

By now you have probably heard of the monstrous murder of Ukrainian immigrant Iryna Zarutska on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We will not post the video here. It is horrific, disturbing, monstrous, and beyond comprehension.

We DO, however, need to discuss a few things:

Criminals Don’t Follow the Law

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has the following rule on their website

ACTS PROHIBITED

It is unlawful for any person to commit the following acts on a CATS vehicle:

Carry, possess or have within immediate access any dangerous weapon

This ‘rule’ is punishable by law. How’d that work out? The CRIMINAL had a dangerous weapon but NO ONE ELSE had a way to STOP him from committing his heinous act before, during or after.

Prohibition laws only ENABLE criminals while leaving the law-abiding defenseless.

Public Transportation

Not recommended. Period. The violent crime on public transportation in big cities has continued to get worse year after year, and nothing is done about it.

If you MUST take public transportation, stand to the back of the platform on trains. Be sure you sit on a seat where no one is behind you. Stand with your back to the wall if you are unable to do this. Keep your phone in your pocket and your bags on your lap. BE AWARE of your surroundings and the people who come onto the train or the bus.

Be close to a door so if you must escape, you easily can.

If you use Uber or Lyft, be sure the license plate of the car you ordered is the same on the car you get into.

Criminals look for the easiest targets. DO NOT BE THAT TARGET.

You are Your Own First Line of Defense

No one is going to save you. No one is going to stop a violent criminal. We’ve seen that repeatedly. YOU are your own first line of defense, which is why you must remain vigilant, and practice heightened situational awareness in public settings.

Learn how to defend yourself with a firearm. If you’re in a place where you are not allowed to practice your fundamental human right to self-defense, be sure you’re on offense and are ready to flee if necessary.

Carry pepper spray if you can, or even a kubaton. ANYTHING is better than being completely defenseless against a violent criminal.

NOTE: If you are flying and bring a kubaton or pepper spray, you must pack them in your checked luggage, or the TSA will take them from you. Also, be sure to check the laws of the city or state you will be visiting regarding these items.

YOU are your own First Responder. No one is coming to save you.

Government has FAILED us.

Our government decided to close mental institutions across the country years ago. They were told by psychiatrists that the violently mentally ill could simply take (UNTESTED) psychotropic drugs and live in society without issue. THEY LIED. People died.

Our justice system continually releases violent criminals back onto the streets so they can prey on other innocent victims. They are supposed to penalize criminals, instead they penalize the law-abiding.

Unfortunately, Iryna is one of many who have been murdered at the hands of violent criminals over the past several years. Violent criminals who were continually released on cashless bail and who weren’t sent to a mental institution or who even received light sentences for previous violent crimes.

Government is no longer ‘by the people, for the people.’

What Can You Do?

Remain vigilant and practice situational awareness. Learn how to safely and accurately shoot a firearm. Learn how to use a firearm in self-defense situations. Train. Practice. Become your own First Responder. You don’t have a choice.

If you’re in a big city or state that doesn’t allow you, a law-abiding citizen, to practice your 2nd Amendment Rights, use other forms of self-defense as allowed by law.

When elections are near, be sure you know everything about a candidate, including their stance on gun control, bail reform, crime, and re-opening mental institutions. If a candidate supports gun control DO NOT vote for them. Tell your friends and family and make sure that candidate is not elected.

VOTE as if your life depends on it, because it DOES.

You cannot only make a difference in your own life, but the lives of others around you.

And please do not misunderstand, this post is not about victim blaming. Iryna should have been able to travel anywhere she wanted on that train, safely. She couldn’t because of our government.

If we don’t learn lessons from these horrific incidents, they will continue to get worse.

You can ACT and put an end to this madness, or you can sit on the sidelines and allow it to continue.

The choice is yours.

We must LEARN from the MONSTROUS murder of Iryna Zarutska.
