Update 1
The EPOCH Times has published an update on this story. The perp is a man who drove a pickup truck into a crowd. He has not been otherwise identified publicly.
They said that the man, who has not been named, opened fire on police officers after crashing his truck. Two officers were hit and are in stable condition at nearby hospitals.
The man killed 10 people, officials said. Dozens of others were rushed to area hospitals with injuries.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the incident as a terrorist attack.
She said she had been in contact with the White House and Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry.
“A horrific act of violence took place on Bourbon Street earlier this morning,” Landry wrote on X. “Please join Sharon and I in praying for all the victims and first responders on scene.”
Alethea Duncan, the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s office in New Orleans, said that an improvised explosive device was found and that testing is underway to determine whether the device was viable.
Update 2
The perp has been identified as ” a US Citizen from Texas,” – wait for it, named Shamsud Din Jabbar. He is alleged to have had an ISIS flag in the truck he rented and some sort of explosive device.
After mowing down numerous people over a three-block stretch on the famed thoroughfare while firing shots into the crowd, the suspect — identified by sources as Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42 — allegedly got out of the truck wielding an assault rifle and opened fire on police officers, law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told ABC News. The FBI does not “believe Jabbar was solely responsible” for the incident, which is being investigated as an act of terror.
Officers returned fire, killing Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, sources said. At least two police officers were shot and wounded, authorities said.
It is being investigated as a terrorist attack. Joe Biden has been briefed, which in this case probably means ‘Pantsed.’
This story is still developing.
