ICYMI – Cheatle Resigns After Bi-Partisan Pressure and Threat of Impeachment

After a rough day before Congress, during which she couldn’t find a friend on either side of the aisle US Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle has left the building. Cheatel Resigned earlier today.

Cheatle stepped down ten days after the assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump, one of the most significant law-enforcement failures in American history, and the defining moment of her law-enforcement career.

I don’t imagine she’ll be getting many offers to lead any private security teams after the mistakes of July 13th, and I’m not shedding a tear. Yeah, I’m sure she’s a wonderful person with some other skills but this isn’t something you can just shake off. You can’t leave it off your resume.

Whatever happens, she’d best not turn up somewhere else in the US government, a move I suspect was on the minds of members of Congress who intended to impeach her if she didn’t step down. That seemed to have done the trick. I doubt you can collect your generous post-employment government bennies if you get removed that way.

As for the “ongoing” investigation,

The Secret Service will have an internal report on what went wrong at the Trump rally in 60 days, a timeline multiple lawmakers told Cheatle is unacceptable given the intensity of the presidential campaign and America’s political climate.

Sure. And the FBI? We don’t expect anything from them, but The Epoch Times had a story this morning that took some of the hot air out of a few media narrative balloons.

“It has been reported that Thomas Crooks was a member of the Bethel Park High School rifle team or tried out for it but was dismissed due to poor performance or because the coach had character concerns. Thomas Crooks was never a member of the school’s rifle team and we have no record of him trying out,” the statement reads.

The same report stated that “District records of Mr. Crooks’s academic performance, disciplinary history, attendance, and more suggest that he “excelled academically, regularly attended school, and had no disciplinary incidents, including those related to bullying or threats,” the school district stated.”

The School could very well be covering its ass, so there’s that, but absent any detailed investigation by the FBI with actual evidence to the contrary – and few reading this thinks the FBI is going to dig too deep or report anything honestly – the School’s story will probably hold.

Under or unreported, but still out there.
