It’s National “If Pets Had Thumbs Day.” I know. What the … It’s also ‘World Wildlife Day’ and ‘Canadian Bacon Day,’ eh? Do you like Irish Whisky? Today is International Irish Whiskey Day and the first day of The Iditarod.

You could grab some whisky and bacon and pets with thumbs (if they have them), Cold Cuts, thank Moms in Georgia, caregivers, and celebrate The National Anthem. March 3rd is their day too.

It is also the birthday of the US Navy Reserves.

On this day in 1857, the Second Opium War Began. Thirty years later, in 1887, Anne Sullivan began teaching 6-year-old blind-deaf, Helen Keller. Mahatma Gandhi began a fast in Mumbai (Bombay, 1939) to protest against autocratic rule in India. And Los Angeles police officers were recorded (1991) beating motorist Rodney King which later led to riots when the police officers were acquitted.
