How about a national Egg McMuffin Day? Yup, that’s today. It’s also Banana Cream Pie Day, Rescue a Cat day, and American Citizenship Day, which sounds xenophobic to Lefties. So sorry. There was no trigger warning.

It’s also Walter Day, Old Stuff Day, and National Read Across America Day.

On this day in 1791, the semaphore machine was unveiled in Paris. Napoléon Bonaparte was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the French Army in Italy in 1796.  And in 1807, the US Congress banned the slave trade within the US, effective January 1, 1808.

In 1962 Philadelphia center Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points, the most ever by an NBA player in a single game.

And one of the most popular musical films of all time premiered on this day in 1965; “The Sound of Music,” starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
