State Senate President Steve Sweeney (D), one of the most powerful politicians in New Jersey, has lost his re-election. Defeated by a guy whose secret to victory was two words. Phil Murphy (the Democrat Governor of the State).
Sweeny, unlike Murphy, couldn’t “find” the votes necessary to keep the job.
“[The results of Tuesday’s election are in. All votes have been fairly counted.] I of course accept the results. I want to congratulate Mr. Durr and wish him the best of luck,” Sweeney said during a speech at the statehouse complex Wednesday.
Sweeney said his loss to Durr, who spent at least $2,300 in the contest, was the result of overwhelming GOP turnout in his suburban, politically split district. Sweeney lost by about 2,000 votes after spending about $305,000 on his campaign.
Durr, who has no political experience, is already making a difference. Governor Phil Murphy, the guy with all the lockdowns and mandates that got Edward Durr elected, says Durr is dangerous.
That’s a good sign.
And he is, but not in the way Murphy thinks. Durr has inspired people Murphy cannot control to use the political process Murphy feels certain he is meant to control – despite his own near-miss – to replace a longtime ally. If that sort of thing were to catch on, well, it would be the end of the world.
People making choices for themselves without his guiding hand backed by the massive policing powers accumulated in the executive branch of his state. A power that Murphy used that have, as Durr puts it,
“…made New Jersey the most-moved-out-of-state in the nation, closed one-third of our small businesses and killed 10,000 nursing home residents,” Durr said. “The fact is, Phil Murphy is far more dangerous than I could ever be.”
The voters in his district agreed. And not just there. Everyone has been talking about Virginia, but the near-loss by Murphy to a Republican in Blue Jersey has the talking-head commentariat soiling its undergarments.
They are outraged at how stupid people are for rejecting the likes of Phil Murphy or his allies. Flabergasted at the election of Glenn Youngkin over former Clinton fixer Terry McAuliffe.
How dare you, to borrow a line from Muppet Greta, vote your mind instead of ours.
That is what makes you dangerous … to them, but it’s how we save the country. One seat at a time, one board at a time, one city, county, state, and nation.
Reject the Left, save America, and maybe even the world.
