Did you know that you can opt your children out of objectionable material assigned to them in school?

Please read about it here:

Such policy shall include a provision requiring the parent or legal guardian to notify the school principal or designee in writing of the specific material to which they object and a provision requiring an alternative agreed upon by the school district and the parent, at the parent’s expense, sufficient to enable the child to meet state requirements for education in the particular subject area.” For example, if a parent objects to a particular book being read in a class, the parent can work with the school to find an alternative reading source.

Several years ago, I worked hard to get a law in place that allows parents to replace objectionable material assigned to their children. I had heard enough from parents whose children were being sexualized by their teachers.

It sure makes you wonder about a teacher who is assigning sexually explicit content to minors. In fact, if that happens, check with your local law enforcement too to see if you can file charges against that teacher. In some instances, it could violate the law.

If you need an opt-out form, here is one you can print off and use.

No matter the subject, parents can replace objectionable material with better-quality academic content. Some parents have replaced Common Core with traditional math. Some have replaced political books with quality literature. Maybe if more parents push back and use quality materials; the teachers will get the message.

Children have different personalities and needs. What may be ok for one child may not be ok for your child. This allows you to replace objectionable material assigned to your child.

Make sure you are communicating with the teachers so you can identify these materials ahead of time.
