Address Race Relations in a Positive Way That Will Help Children Grow

Two parents addressed the Salem, NH Board of education on August 31st regarding Critical Race Theory. At the end of their statements, the audience also showed their support for what was said.

The parents were respectful, laid out their thoughts and beliefs on Critical Race Theory and, discussed how they believe race relations should be taught in our public schools.

You will notice that none of the speakers want the truth and reality from our past to be ignored. They support the good, bad and ugly in history to be taught to students. This is a common theme among parents who do not want any part of the radical CRT agenda pushed on their children.

YES, to honoring the message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that seeks to unify us, and yes to teaching children historical truths without any political bias. NO to blaming and shaming children and staff, and NO to imposing a radical worldview of prejudice that drives parents to remove their children from the public school.

Because Salem administrators have not forced this radical political agenda on their students, but have committed to respecting parents and their children, the school board and superintendent were met with a great deal of respect.

These parents want harmony between the races and, they want harmony in their community. They want to show respect to people of color and hear their stories and concerns. It’s how we all move forward towards a more peaceful union.

Compare this to the communities that have been divided by this radical political agenda thrust upon their teachers, staff, and students. Parents are angry, board members have been put in the hot seat, and many residents are calling for the resignation of the Superintendents working in their district. These administrators are not going to do any good if they continue down this path.

In Salem, they have the green light to address race relations in a positive way that will help children grow in compassion, empathy, and understanding.

Salem administrators also have the green light to continue to elevate academic excellence for all of their students, especially the students of color. That’s true social justice -offering students of color real opportunities in life. They are opening doors for students of color instead of shutting doors because too much time is wasted on propaganda instead of quality academic content.

This is not a difficult recipe to follow, and if the administrators and school board members continue to serve the needs of all of their families, those families will all support them.

Parents will fight for their public schools, teachers, administrators, and board members when they remain focused on quality academics for their students.

There may be bumps in the road from time to time, but when you see this kind of approach by elected board members and administrators, you know you have some pretty good people supporting your public school and your children.
