Did you know that your children do not have to take the state standardized assessment given in your public school each year? That also includes the SAT given to students in 10th grade. You are better off finding an actual achievement test, giving it to your child outside the school system, and looking at those results.
That will give you a better idea of your child’s proficiency in the core academic subjects. The information is sent to you and you don’t have to worry about where your child’s data is going.
There is a difference between an achievement test and a psychometric assessment. Here is a link to a good-quality achievement test. When it comes to psychometric assessments, sometimes it’s better when I give an example of a question that will be asked of your child on an assessment.
In this example, this question was on an AP U.S. Government and Politics practice exam. The source for the picture is the Brennan Center for Justice, a far-left political organization.
An achievement test is given to students to test their knowledge in a core subject. But as you can see from the example above, psychometric assessments are used to grade the student’s attitudes, values, and beliefs. This is why many parents have refused the standardized tests for their children. You can do that every spring by notifying the Principal that you are refusing to allow your child to take the standardized assessment.
It’s also important to check other tests your children are taking at school. Is it a test of knowledge or is it a way to grade your child’s political beliefs? This question on the AP test could be influencing your child’s political views.
Nothing on the AP tests mentions:
Seventy-five percent (75%) of Likely U.S. Voters believe voters should be required to show photo identification such as a driver’s license before being allowed to vote. Only 21% are opposed to such a requirement.
Support for voter ID laws has actually increased since 2018, when 67% said voters should be required to show photo identification such as a driver’s license before being allowed to vote.
69% of black voters support voter ID laws.
No matter what political position you hold, you can see how children can be indoctrinated into a political viewpoint based on a question on a standardized assessment.
If your child is revealing their personal political views through these kinds of assessments, where does that data go? Who has access to it?
Tests are supposed to grade your child’s academic knowledge not their political views. As you can see, this is more about learning your child’s political viewpoints rather than testing their knowledge on important academic content that they should be learning.
This is just another way they are politicizing the classroom instead of teaching to literacy in the core academic subjects.
