WBZ reports that “Newton District Judge Shelley M. Joseph and court officer Wesley MacGregor face four federal charges: perjury; obstruction of justice, aiding and abetting; obstruction of a federal proceeding, aiding and abetting; and conspiracy to obstruct justice.”
Judge Joseph and Court Officer MacGregor, knowing an ICE officer was waiting to take custody of a twice-deported illegal alien (and a fugitive from justice) secreted him through her chambers and out of the court building.
Immediately following the proceeding, MacGregor allegedly escorted the defendant, his attorney and an interpreter downstairs to the lockup and used his security access card to open the rear sally-port exit and release the defendant at 3:01 p.m.
The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts is not happy.
“The allegations in today’s indictment involve obstruction by a sitting judge, that is intentional interference with the enforcement of federal law, and that is a crime. We cannot pick and choose the federal laws we follow, or use our personal views to justify violating the law. Everyone in the justice system – not just judges, but law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and defense counsel – should be held to a higher standard. The people of Massachusetts expect that, just like they expect judges to be fair, impartial and to follow the law themselves.”
We need more prosecutions like this, and not just of judges and courts. The Bay State is the genesis of New Hampshire’s opioid crisis. The deliberate embrace of illegal behavior has cost GraniteStaters their lives to addiction. Vast sums of money have to be redirected from more productive purposes for policing, treatment, and recovery. All because of people like Judge Shelley M. Joseph and those who enable her.
It is not anti-immigrant to expect people to follow our laws.
Illegal Aliens do not have more rights than legal immigrants or actual citizens. Until the system brings their criminal abettors to heel en masse law-abiding citizens will continue to suffer.
If these laws don’t matter to judges why should any law matter to anyone?
