BBC.com has an article with the above picture titled, ‘Moonbow’ photographed over Yorkshire.’
Moonbow?
Moonbow sounds like…moonbow. It’s awful. Does that mean we should be calling the light side version a Sunbow? Yes? Well, we can’t, that’s already taken.
Noun
1. A bow or arc of prismatic colors like a rainbow, appearing in the spray of cataracts, waterfalls, fountains, etc.
So why isn’t a Moonbow the night version of a Sunbow? I don’t know.
Not that it matters. That’s not what is in the photograph, and lovely job by the way. What we do have is a picture of a Rainbow in the Dark.
According to Ronny James Dio, this means that there’s no sign of the morning coming and that you’ve been left on your own. There are also some bits about lightning, magic, demons, being lost. It’s not exactly a couple’s first dance song for weddings but probably excellent for divorces if those were celebrated by anyone other than lawyers. And no, it’s not really all that dark out if there’s enough moonlight to make a Moonbow regardless of what we call it.
And seeing as this is something of a stream of consciousness post, was the Moonbow named by the same fellow responsible for Grapefruit? It looks nothing like grapes, which–for the record–are already a fruit, and look nothing like purple which is the color someone decided on for everything grape flavored which–also for the record–tastes nothing at all like grapes.
Rainbows have purple in them. Maybe we should call them grapes, in darkness or light, and dispense with all these distinctions.
And yes, I still count Pluto as a planet.
