If you missed this story, I’m sorry to have to be the one to share it. US-backed rebels in Syria took a selfie before beheading a Palestinian child thought to be an enemy fighter. The resulting blowback from the selfie produced a statement from the al-Zenki movement leadership. In it, they say this is not their policy. They will locate and subject those associated with the child’s execution to a judicial committee and suitable punishments. Annnnnnnnd they blame the rest of the world.

It’s that last line.
“The movement blames the international community for being silent about the crimes committed by the regime, which includes killing thousands of civilians and besieging Aleppo.”
So, sorry about beheading a child. Not S.O.P and we promise that we will deal with it. But we want to make sure you know your role in this.
The US Government’s first official statement about its role is that it is not sure yet what that role is, or will continue to be, depending on if the allegations are true. Seriously. Maybe it’s just workplace violence by a pack of lone wolves misinterpreting Islam. And if they wait 72 hours perhaps the internet will just forget it every happened.
