Some days it’s more bewildering than others to attempt to answer why the hellish hyperstate is trusted to do even the most basic fundamental tasks. Like you know, feeding somebody so that they don’t starve to death. It seems to me that should be mastered before taking on additional responsibilities. How about proving you can feed someone in your charge before say, oh I don’t know, mandating that grown men can pee with little girls? Or how about that felons can vote?
This young man of 24 years was found dead in his jail cell which lead to an investigation. He was apparently mentally ill, according to his family in this report, “suffered from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder”. He was arrested for stealing the luxury items consisting of “Mountain Dew, a Snickers bar, and a Zebra Cake”. He was then denied bond. A judge, presumably aware of his condition, “ordered him moved to a states mental health hospital” but alas, beds were not available.
The man’s name was Jamychael Mitchell. And we’re discussing him now because he is dead. So what happened to Jamychael Mitchell? He “spent 101 days in jail while he waited for that transfer, evidently starving himself to death over the weeks and months he remained there.” He was in jail, a staffed jail that has recording devices presumably to record situations where something goes terribly wrong, like when someone doesn’t eat for 101 days. But did that help? Nope.
Nice. How about making sure the “felons” don’t starve themselves to death before the Virginia Governor concerns himself with restoring their voting rights by fiat in order to help out his cankled friend get votes from felons. One would think that Democrat Governor McAuliffe would first ensure the incarcerated are not able to starve themselves to death before chewing over the machinations of executing an order to restore voting rights to felons without legislative authority. They can’t vote if they’re dead there buddy, Terry.
And it gets worse. It looks like the Hampton Roads Regional Jail, the cesspool of authority where this negligence took place, knew it screwed the pooch and, of course, tried to cover it up.
“ Last month, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that video images captured outside Mitchell’s cell in the days and hours leading up to his death had been automatically erased, according to jail protocol. The jailhouse system automatically tapes over footage 18 days after it is recorded, but Mitchell’s family lawyer had requested that it be preserved. And even if it had not been requested, how can it possibly be appropriate for officials to erase footage of an inmate who has died because of alleged abuse and neglect? Lt. Col. Eugene Taylor III, an assistant superintendent at the jail, told the Times-Dispatch that the video was not preserved “because it did not show any type of criminality or negligence.” Good to know.”
I’m not an anarchist. The state and local governments does have some actual responsibilities. Ensuring that the incarcerated don’t starve themselves to death is one of them. The head executive of the branch attempting to bypass the legislative branch in order to help a friend get elected is not. Stop it.
