California is at the forefront of government interfering with the value of labor. The Fight for 15 campaign, lead primarily by unions, has succeeded in pushing up wages for some but not because anyone really cares about wages. Unionized hotel employees, as but one example, don’t get the hike — but non-union hotel employees do.
Owners of hotels with non-unionized employees who want to avoid a giant hit to their labor costs can avoid the increase by letting their employees unionize.
Union bosses get rich off piles of new members paying monthly dues, but none of them get a raise to $15.00 and hour because the fight for 15 wasn’t really about wages. Not for workers.
