Today Presidential candidate John Kasich (R-Ohio) gave a town hall at a VFW in Raymond, New Hampshire. It was a small event where Kasich opened up almost immediately for questions although he started the event talking a little about what he has done. One of the things he mentioned was that he works with people.
Working with people is how Kasich says he gets things done. Essentially he was saying that if elected President, he’ll work with people rather than having stalemates in Congress. This is a little ironic considering he bypassed the full Ohio Legislature to pass Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion, which he admitted when questioned about it.
Kasich claims Ohio legislators refused to vote on Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion because they were “afraid of the primaries” and concerned they wouldn’t be elected if they voted for it. So when Ohio legislators refused to vote, Kasich went to the legislative leaders who decided, along with Kasich, that they would pass this behemoth medical welfare program through the “Controlling Board.” Kasich said:
I didn’t just do this on my own. I did this with the blessing of the leadership and we got it done.
Apparently leadership is more important than the entire legislative body to Kasich. Do the representatives of the people not matter when passing huge government programs in the state? Aren’t legislators elected to be the voice of the people? Certainly only a few in leadership do not represent the entirety of Ohio citizens.
Kasich has also continually makes false claims about Medicaid Expansion during many of his campaign stops. He recently made false claims to the New Hampshire legislature and a new video has come out that picks apart Kasich’s spin.
This hardly paints the picture of a man who claims to work with people to get things done or of an “honest” politician running for President. During the event Kasich also stated he wants to give local control back to states with regards to education. This is interesting since he pushed Common Core in Ohio as well. It’ll be up to New Hampshire voters to decide if Kasich should be believed in the primary next week.
