Where some in the ‘Liberty’ Movement Fail

Large Oak Tree at Sunset

There’s been a huge uproar recently over a bill that was submitted in the NH House that bans women from showing their nipples in public. The bill is indeed ridiculous and needs to die a quick death in committee or beforehand. For the record, the bill excludes breastfeeding, which many seemed to have missed.

The bill was brought forth in response to left wing feminists who have decided that they want to go topless on New Hampshire beaches despite there being local ordinances in place prohibiting such behavior.

To be clear, I don’t care what these women do. Their behavior doesn’t affect my life in the least bit.

The issue lies in the fact they are simply trying to shove their left wing agenda down the throats of a majority who simply aren’t interested in it.

And therein lies the problem.

Rather than try to win over society and explain WHY this is a good idea and the right thing to, they have simply told society F*CK YOU, it’s our ‘right’ or something. And if you don’t agree with us ‘F*CK YOU’ and you don’t believe in equal rights or women’s rights.

Of course, I’ve already discussed their ridiculous hypocrisy here and here.

The problem with some in the liberty movement is they fall right in line with these left wing tools, which actually hurts their cause with people who would otherwise be on their side.

The problem is how these women are going about it which pushes away some who they might actually convince.

We have over 200 years of history that proves you can indeed change the minds and hearts of society with information and education. It may take a long time but when you get a majority of society on board with your cause,  lawmakers fall into place.

Breast feeding in public is a prime example.  When I breastfed my son it was taboo in society to do so in public. I used bathrooms, dressing rooms and even did it in my car when necessary. Over time that taboo has changed and public breastfeeding is widely accepted by the majority now.

Why? Because women who supported it worked over many years to educate people on why there was nothing wrong with it and it was a completely natural thing to do in public.  And yes there were even protests but those were after years of educating society on why it wasn’t a big deal.

One of the issues with the liberty movement is they believe, as I do, if something isn’t hurting another person and you aren’t forcing me to pay for it, have at. The problem is that not all of society feels the same way. Whether we like it or not, that is the reality.

Too many completely ignore reality and neglect to look at the bigger picture of society.

If you want society to jump on board with your beliefs, you have to educate them on WHY your beliefs are right. You can’t simply say ‘YOU SUCK’ or ‘YOU’RE A STATIST’ if they disagree with you.

When you win the hearts and minds of people, you win more freedom. We’ve seen this with many various causes over the years including marijuana. A huge majority of society is now for at least decriminalization, including people who don’t use it. Including people who were previously 100% against it.

So while many in the liberty movement would prefer to continue to bash those in society who may disagree, others will continue to work to educate detractors as to why their views are right.

When people are so quick to support left wing loons who would take their rights away in a heartbeat, it does nothing for the liberty movement but turn off people who may otherwise be aligned with them.

If you want to advance liberty in New Hampshire and in the country, you have to work within the society that exists, not the one you want to exist. You will never get a truly free society by bitching and moaning about statists without ever lifting a finger to turn people on to your ideology.

You have to look at the bigger picture in order to create a game plan that will succeed.

It’s hard work but we already know it works. So rather than bashing those who may disagree, work with them; educate them and turn them into a supporter of your cause.

And we know this because it’s actually been put into practice by many activists over many years.

If we do this, the leaves on the tree of liberty will continue to grow.

If we don’t, the leaves will brown and fall off.
