New Month, New Year, and I spent my morning working on GrokTALK! What does that mean, exactly? Because I am using a different laptop I need to run all the audio through it to see what sounds different. The sound from this device is superior to my previous laptop so changes must be made. I made a few, but can’t count on those until I test it up in Concord.
Format-wise, we are going to the traditional three segment hour from our current four segment arrangement. Instead of breaks every fifteen minutes on the hour they will be (roughly) every twenty.
I don’t have any new ads done yet but we will be adding some. We will also endeavor to do more Motel 6-esque parody – “We’ll Keep Shining the light on ’em for you,” as well as new material. I am also looking to recruit new voices to aid me in this because I have long been tired of hearing myself in all of this.
Music on the show is drifting back to its roots.
Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand (98.5 The Sports Hub – CBS Sports Radio Boston) do this segment I love called “read and react.” I’d like to do something similar on GrokTALK! with Mike, Skip, and whomever is in studio.
WTF is staying and hey!, we already have an eponymous entrant for the next show on January 9th.
We got away from the scheduled education, life, Climate, and 2A specific segments we started with last year. I’d like to work those back in but I’m not sure how often just yet. I want to work through the new format for a few weeks to get a sense of things first.
We will continue to book local and national guests but there will be less emphasis on that than in previous years. I am not sold completely on the idea but having one or two guests as opposed to three or four opens up space for us to stretch our legs some more, and I’d like to see our other contributors guest-co-host more often to help us with that. I will post a schedule of shows and ask in advance for volunteer Groksters. If you happen to be of the Conservatarian persuasion and have an ear and mouth for radio, email me and we’ll bring you in as a guest co-host.
Fixing the Spreaker live stream is actually priority number one (even though it appears way down here in the list) as is getting that feed setup properly so affiliates can set their stations to broadcast that seamlessly. Once we get that taken care of I will look to expand our station list and audience.
We will be rebroadcasting the Saturday show throughout the following week, this year. New software makes this possible for me to provide from anywhere I have a wireless connection. Barring technical difficulties the Saturday program will be available at GraniteGrok.com and Spreaker .com the following Wednesday from 8-10 pm EST. I will add a mid-morning and afternoon ride rebroadcast on days other than Wednesday – to be announced as soon as I am sure of when I can deliver it consistently.
There will be some sort of marketing campaign in January/ February to grow the audience. More on that later.
We are going to open up advertising options for local groups, candidates, organizations, events, and even businesses on the radio program as well as on GraniteGrok.com. Cheaper than cheap dirt flat rate by the week pricing; just looking to soften the blow on production, site, and maintenance expenses. Email me if you are interested – steve@granitegrok.com. In-post ads on site, 30 or 60 second spots on air. We can help with production for free if that removes a barrier for you.
There could be a change to the shows graphics. Not sure. I like what we have but a refresh is always desirable. If you would like to volunteer suggestions email me.
No change in the content focus: We’re still your feared, extremist, right-wing, hard-charging, gun-toting, opinionated, outspoken, rabble-rousing, letter-writing, radio-microphone stomping…you know whats.
I think that’s it for the moment.
We look forward to giving you an improved program in 2016.
Happy New Year.
