Politico | Iowa Rep. Steve King on Monday endorsed Ted Cruz, a coup for the Texas senator who is seeking to gain ground with the first-in-the-nation caucus state’s conservative activists, with whom King is deeply influential.

He made the announcement at a press conference in Iowa and in a video released on Twitter, a move that gives Cruz momentum in the battle to consolidate the conservative base in the state even as he currently trails other candidates in the polls.

From what I am reading, the other big “get” for Iowa is Bob Vander Plaats, head of the Family Leader.  He is holding a presidential on Friday, after which he is expected to make an endorsement. If Cruz gets King and Vander Plaats, he could sew up Iowa this week.

I know, Trump and Carson, Trump and Carson. The polls look good for both in Iowa but Trump is probably not getting an endorsement from Bob Vander Plaats and social conservatives typically own the Republican Caucus in Iowa. No amount of positive RCP polling numbers has the power or value of those endorsements so whoever ends up with them makes it a lot closer than it may appear and probably wins there.
