Update: I am told that this has been resolved. You no longer need to contact the chair or the committee members about allowing a fair hearing.
Original post on the jump.
The asset forfeiture reform bill (HB 636) is being heard today (02/19/2015 at 01:30 PM LOB 208) and the committee chair, according to my sources, is said to have told the Bill sponsor that he would only let two people speak on it before closing the public hearing and moving to retain it. Not much for public input? Someplace else to be?
A hearing is a hearing not a silencing and HB 636 would dramatically improve asset forfeiture law in the state. This ought to glide out of committee “Ought to pass” but whatever the outcome might be it still deserves a full hearing. Let the people speak.
So please contact Chairman Robert Rowe to let him know you think this bill is the bees knees, the cat’s meow, the cream in your coffee or the apple of your eye. Or you could just ask him to allow more testimony, and offer your input on the legislation.
