Is this the Constitutional equivalent of asking despots to weigh in on the enforcement of Human Rights issues in other countries (c/o their appointment by other ‘experts’ to bodies like the UN Human Rights commission)?
On Wednesday, September 17, MHS students and staff participated in the second annual Constitutionally Speaking initiative at the Capitol Center for the Arts. Speakers for the event were retired United States Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and David Souter. The topic, The State of Democracy in America Today, provided the opportunity for students to consider our rights and responsibilities as citizens.
The state of the Constitutional Republic might have been a better topic, as would “decisions by retired Supreme Court Justices that almost cost them their homes to their own assault on personal property rights.”
