In case there is any doubt that there is a media preference for Democrats let’s just clear that up…Again.
A quick search of three local Newspapers near me, provides some perspective.
I Searched three items. Leland Yee, the gun-running anti-gun Democrat State Senator from CA, Wendy Davis–a Democrat State senator from TX (and candidate for governor of TX), and the Trayvon Martin shooting. So we have Guns, stories from outside NH, and stories about State Senators, along with women and minorities. It’s a Progressive Party Salad of news story potential.
Want to see how they did?
The Manchester Union leader had one syndicated columns on Yee, a handful on mentions in syndicated columns on the Trayvon Case, and I found nothing about Davis.
The Nashua Telegraph has two articles on Yee. One from June, 2011 and one from Nov. 2010, both on Yee’s work related to a CA law to prohibit violent video games. They have nothing on Gun-runner, crime-lord connected Democrat Yee. The Telegraph does have 7 stories on Davis, and 9 pages of search results for Trayvon. (Potentially over 100 separate mentions.)
The Concord Monitor search produced no stories about a gun running state senator vying to be the next CA Sec-o-State working with a drug lord and terrorist groups, but they did have at least 6 links about Wendy Davis, and had 8 pages of links to stories about Trayvon.
I think we can let the UL off on this as they have little to no local content on any of these stories. But who wants to bet that if I search the Telegraph and the Monitor for stories with the words “Gun violence” that the search results light up like a Christmas Holiday Tree?
To be fair, Trayvon and Davis have had more calendar days to be deemed relevant. That is a legitimate criticism of my unscientific results. But if Yee were a Republican, or had ties to the Koch brothers, does anyone doubt that the State Democrat party would be feeding stories to the papers or their ‘political reporters’ to push the gun violence meme?
Let’s not leave anyone out. This is also an indictment of inept Republicans who still can’t manage to compete at the same narrative PR level as the NHDP who are happy to let their opponents take the “high ground” while they monopolize the very real fact that negative ads and negative press works, all year long, not just in the run up to an election.
Let us assume the NHGOP is clueless, as there is ample evidence on other points, and because I think we’d know if they were feeding narratives to the press and being snubbed.
I think we can conclude that the left-wing water carriers in the local New Hampshire print media don’t really care about “gun violence” if the story is about a Democrat state senator known for his hard stance on gun control and gun violence, who is arrested for running guns with crime lords and terrorists while a story about some obscure Christian Republican who cheated on his wife would be what…front page news?
Remember the point of this. They are supposed to be reliable unbiased messengers. (Yeah, it makes me laugh every time I say it.)
Oh! Almost forgot WMUR. Six stories on Davis, sixty-five on Trayvon, and Yee…take a look.
