The Federal government has granted Uwe and Hannelore Romeike indefinite deferred status, allowing them and their children to stay in the US. We reported on the Romeike’s a year ago, and their pursuit of asylum. The family fled Germany because they chose to homeschool their children, which is prohibited in Germany by law. (I covered all of that here.)
Just one day ago, the Romeikes thought they would be forced to return to Germany, where the state could take custody of their children because of their decision to home-school. At a minimum, they would face increasingly harsh fines for violating Germany’s compulsory attendance law.
