We received the letter in the mail a couple months ago. The good people at Regence Bluecross Blueshield were pleased to inform us that due to Obamacare our current low-monthly premium, comically-high deductible medical policy would no longer exist come January 1, 2014. Pleased, because a new and better plan would be offered in its place. Old monthly premium: $578 for a family of four (non-smoking, helmet-wearing, and paternally snipped). New premium: $1,123. A 94% increase.
When government action mandates higher costs for products and services that too is a tax. So thanks to Democrats you can be taxed via increased premium costs for the pleasure of losing the plan you liked and were told you could keep (but can’t) and you can also be taxed for refusing to to be taxed via increased costs for the pleasure of losing your plan you were told you could keep.
And while younger voters will be taxed (see also screwed) through higher premium, business owners and the self-employed will be taxed with higher premiums as well which will, I say WILL, result in fewer resources available for wages, jobs, and individual and business to business commerce that can no longer be engaged in becasue those resources have been exhausted to pay for something that is now 94% more expensive (in this instance) than it was before October 1st.
This is a massive, enormous, epic tax on everyone including the “demographically precious” middle class. A “tax” that, in the course of wrecking the health insurance market, will drag the rest of the economy down with it.
So how do we spin that?
If you like your member of congress you can keep them. Period.
