Not for nothing but one of the goals of the Islamists, be they the Muslim Brotherhood variety with whom Barack Obama has aligned, or the Shiite/Syria/Iran variety with whom he appears to be opposing, is to remove all foreign influence from the region. There can be no taint. That is part of the reason why they use terror. It is wholly why they will never-despite what they may or may not pretend– tolerate Israel’s existence. To them it is abhorrent to Allah. It is poisoning the Umma.
So when Obama, and other nations, begin a wholesale diplomatic retreat from the Middle East for any reason, and I’m not saying whether it is good or bad just connecting actions to know facts, it is exactly what the Islamists want.
